The Nintendo Power Pad, released in 1988, is a floor-based controller designed for the Nintendo
Entertainment System (NES), allowing players to use their feet to interact with games. Developed by Bandai and later
distributed by Nintendo, the Power Pad featured a soft, plastic mat with 12 pressure-sensitive buttons arranged in
two sets of numbered circles. Players can step, run, or jump on the pad to control in-game actions, making it an
early attempt at motion-based gaming. It was primarily used for fitness and sports-themed titles. Though innovative
for its time, the Power Pad has a limited library of compatible games and was overshadowed by traditional controllers.
